Packing List for your Hawaii Vacation: What to Bring and What to Skip

What to pack for Hawaii Trip

I have visited Hawaii more than 13 times in the last 3 years. It’s my experience you will enjoy a lot if you bring only things which are important. As a good saying

“ If you want to enjoy your trip, Take a few things with you.” That’s 100% true

If you take a lot of things with you, you will be tied when taking care of these things. 

Here is the list of things you must take with you.

1- Lightweight and Comfortable Clothes

You want to be stylish in a new place, Right? But we suggest you bring light and comfortable clothes. 

If you have the wrong clothes in your bag, you can get in trouble and get frustrated. Wearing Cool, lightweight, and Comfortable clothes boosts your confidence. 

Don’t forget to pack these in your bag:

  • Cool and comfortable T-shirts
  • Shorts that are easy to wear
  • Sundresses to protect from the sun
  • Loose-fitting trousers

Tip: If you want more space in your bag, pack clothes you can wear and mix and match. This will also give you more outfit options. 

2- Swimwear

If you plan to miss Hawaii beaches, then you are making the worst mistake. Hawaii is Known for its beautiful beaches. 

And if you are planning to visit Hawaii beaches like Waikiki Beach, you must wear swimwear. 

If you want our recommendation, pack at least 2 sets of Swimwear. Have a separate bag on the beach for your wet clothes. 

Tip: Always pack at least two pairs of swimwear. When you reach the hotel, hang them on the balcony to dry.  

3- Sun Protection

When you are planning to visit Hawaii, then you must know about the sun. The Hawaiian sun is not a joke. 

Always plan things first. Your Skin, Body, and eyes are very important. Take sun protection products with you.

  • Sunglasses (To protect your Eyes)
  • Sunscreen ( to protect your Skin)\
  • Hat (To protect your head)

Don’t forget to bring these tools with you.

Tip: If you are visiting Hawaii in the summer, always stay hydrated. Bathe at least twice a day. 

4- Easy to wear and Comfortable Shoes

The fourth important thing you can have in your bag is Shoes. There are a lot of Hiking, Sightseeing, and Exploring Opportunities in Hawaii.
You can wear different shoes for hiking and sightseeing. If you think your one pair of shoes is best for hiking and exploring, then it can be best. 

Ladies, You can have comfortable sandals. Please leave heels at home.

5-  Other Important Beach Tools

You need to know that Hawaii is not a cheap place. Everything is 30% cheaper than in other US states. 

So if you are tight in budget, you must have beach tools. Here is the list

  • A beach Bag (So you can collect dirty items from the beach and throw them away)
  • Reusable.Water Bottle 
  • Beach Towel (Will help you to be more comfortable on the beach)

What Not to Pack for the Hawaii Trip

You will enjoy it more if you leave these things in your home.

1- Heavy and Fancy Clothes

Okay, the first and most important thing you can leave at home is Heavy and Fancy Clothes. Yes, there are some locations in Hawaii where you can face too much cold, like Mauna Kea.

But if you don’t have a plan for this place, then leave these things in your home.

  • Heavy Jackets
  • Worm Sweaters
  • Too tight or heavy jeans 

Most of the places in Hawaii are Humen Friendly. They are not too cold or hot. So if you think you need these clothes, you are just taking up valuable space in your suitcase. 

2- Expensive jewellery

Are you visiting Hawaii for a friend’s or Relative’s wedding? If yes, then Take jewelry with you. 

If you are not, just go for a trip and enjoy the beautiful beaches, breathtaking views, and sunsets, then leave expensive jewellery at home.

You don’t need to show off your wealth to anyone. Just be simple and gentle with everyone. 

3- Formal Clothes or Wears

In the same way, if you are going to Hawaii to attend a family function or event, you should have formal clothes with you.

But if you are going to Hawaii for entertainment, you don’t need formal clothes. If you are planning on dinner, a nice shirt and comfortable trousers are enough

4- Too Many Shoes Bundles

If you think you need six pairs of shoes per week in Hawaii, then you might be wrong. You need 2-3 pairs of shoes to enjoy. Here are some of the basic shoes you need in Hawaii.

  • Walking Shoes (Must be comfortable and easy to wear)
  • Flip-Flops (For walking on Beach or roadside)
  • Nice and beautiful sandals (For a party, Event, or Dinner)

1- Do I need to pack a Jacket when visiting Hawaii

If you are planning to visit cold places or go in winter weather, then you must bring a jacket with you.

But if you are visiting Hawaii in summer weather or plan to visit places that are not cold, you don’t need to. Most of the time, you don’t need a jacket when visiting Hawaii.

2- Do I need a Beach Towel when visiting Hawaii?

If you are staying in a reputed hotel in Hawaii, they will provide you with a beach towel as part of your tour package. But if you are staying in a Guest house, you must bring a Beach towel with you.

3- Can I wear Shorts everywhere in Hawaii?

Most places in Hawaii allow shorts. You can wear shorts on the beach, on hiking trails, or with shoes.

But there are still some restaurants where Shorts are not allowed, and you must wear long trousers.
